The ANC’s First Deputy Secretary General, Nomvula Mokonyane, says the party should urgently intervene in the matter involving NEC member Andile Lungisa.

Mokonyane was speaking to the SABC during the party’s campaign trail in Ivory Park, Johannesburg, earlier today.

Lungisa has taken the party’s Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula, to court after accusing Mbalula of taking him off the candidate’s list in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro in the Eastern Cape.

Mbalula maintains that Lungisa did not participate in the candidate vetting process.

The High Court in Johannesburg has reserved judgment in the matter until the 12th of this month.

“There are due processes, the guidelines of the ANC. There’s an implementation of what is required by law, and all those permutations must be looked at. The issue of Andile cannot be an issue that becomes something that is portrayed as a mess in the African National Congress. It does need political attention. It does need organizational intervention. The best is to get it out of court,” Mokonyane elaborates.
